I guess I got some balls to draw ponies in school because I promised this guy to draw this.
Posted the flat too because I kind of liked it better. It just doesn’t have a cutie mark.
Dudes I seriously woke up today early from hunger and a dream about terrorist trying to destroy buildings with Disney Rides.
Anyway morning draw. Still working on the experiment. Twist this time and she seems a little older then she actually is.
After watching Cats Don’t Dance again like 3 times I had to try this out.
When you watch old cartoons like CDD and Warner Bros in general, you see all these anthro characters. Yet.. you don’t think that. For some reason I see Danny and Sawyer and I don’t feel “Furry or Anthropomorphic characters”. All I feel is “Cartoons.”
Its an interesting distinction that I have in my mind that I don’t really think about until after I watched these things again.
So I tried it. (And Failed.)
Rarity was obviously my first shot. The “line of action” or whatever the animators call it is obviously completely non existant. But I didn’t want to just throw it away after I took so much time on it.
Applejack I feel is closer without exaggerating the key features. Its almost there but not quite.
What makes a cartoon character seem more cartoony and less anthrony (Even though they are really not).
I noticed the body types

Like a cartoon should be, characters are exaggerated in places where it matters and completely diverse. Just compare Danny and Sawyers and even Darlas legs. One of the most interesting elements is the characters hands and feet are extremely simplified. So when someone insults someones ability to draw hands and feet, I just point them to the style of cartoons. Some characters after tiny feet and hands that could probably stab you with a boop. How accurate the hands look don’t seem to matter so long as you get the point across that they are indeed hands, not fins.
Characters also tend to be very skinny around the stomach and arm areas, a huge critique on King Cheetahs style. Also as far as overall design, Dannys pelvis seems to be lower down with less leg room while Sawyers is higher. It gives an interesting distinction between female and male characters (though nt all are like that.)
I don’t know what I’m going on about but I want to explore this more.
Also someone wanted me to draw Soos from Gravity Falls on a pony but I didn’t have enough good source material so I’ll get to that right when i get more. I’m not the type to download episodes and keep them since I have limited space.
Original stuff.
Oh no..
I keep setting these projects that are far beyond what I can currently do in terms of modelling and they never get finished. I’m going to cut down and try to do something simpler so I at least have something to show.
This guys supposed to be some kind of game character..mob…thing.I’ve been looking at the model viewer for League of Legends and their models are actually amazingly simple.
I’m going to try to emulate that.
DRAW SOMETHING EVERYDAY
EVEN IF YOU HATE IT
DRAW
That’s my motto lately. If I miss a day I have to draw 2 things the next day. Though I might not post everything I do on that day here.
Some anon suggested I’m getting worse. I agree. Gotta fix that. Saw a “Draw everyday for a month” schedule plan somewhere on one of the artist tumblrs. Its a month schedule so I’m going to try to start on the first.
Requested and Inspired by the ad libbing session in the voice actors panel yesterday at Everfree Con…….thing……..
Cathy is pretty cool
