shareazu replied to your post: “Rose, considering animated movies, do you have a preference for 2D or 3D? could you explain why? Also, what’s your opinion on using 3D elements on a mostly 2D animation?”:
I believe the usage of 3d in 2d animations is mostly used to simplify the process, since it’s theoretically easier to make a 3d model and then animate it around, than to draw every single object in a scene. the results can be good! Now hold on a second there. I don’t think it’s fair to disregard the amount of work people still have to do in making the models, rigging them, and them manipulating them for the scenes.
I’m not going to disagree that it takes a lot of effort to draw a lot of individual pictures, but I don’t like to downplay people’s efforts and hard work.
Holy shit THIS
Have you tried to model, texture, rig and animate a character?
It’s fucking hard. One character can take days. Rendering a shot could take WEEKS. I know the industry has more then one person doing different things but that’s why it seems so easy. Because its a team of people working on those different steps. 2D, especially today, can really be done by one person.
