Overskeptical Overprotective Mother:  Me and your grandmother think it’s a bad idea to go to Wisconsin. People have been shot in Wisconsin. Don’t go. There’s Racism everywhere you go.

Me:  Mom I don’t subscribe under the ideaology that you don’t try to experience new things because it might be dangerous. Sure there might be racism everywhere but this is an event I want to go to. I feel as long as I keep to myself, stay out of certain situations and obey the law I should never find myself in a position where a cop is pointing a gun at me.

Overskeptical Overprotective Mother: You wouldn’t go to Mississippi or Florida, would you?

Me: Not at the moment no but Wisconsin and states like it have had incidents too few and far in between to conclude that it’s too dangerous for anyone to go there. You can’t keep living in the past but if you’re so concerned then I won’t go if there’s any evidence of things getting worse because of race relations.
