If the first episode of some is so awful that I can’t stand to watch it, why in the world would I ever want to continue…

Because the first episode is usually the pilot. An episode made to pitch an idea. Of course it’s going to be pretty barebones and of course it isn’t always the case. 

Shows either improve from their pilots or they stay the same but to base your opinion over just the first episode when regarding an entire show means you don’t really have a grasp about what the show is about. 

Within the first three episodes rather you’re into it or out, you can usually see how the show is progressing.

This being said it took Steven universe WAY MORE than 3 episodes before it got to it’s quality and I couldn’t ask anyone to be patient enough to wait if they started off hating it.
