Sony Pulls ‘Sausage Party’ Amid Growing Concern (x)
“The news comes three weeks after Paramount dropped ‘Little Prince’ just days before its US release of March 18. ‘Sausage Party’, previously scheduled for release on August 12, has been dropped by Sony Pictures Imageworks, Variety learned exclusively.
The film touts itself as the 'first R-rated computer-animated movie’ and has a star-studded cast including Seth Rogen (writer), Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, and Michael Cera.
A spokesman for SPI explained, ‘While the film was garnering a lot of positive buzz online, there were also many outspoken, negative comments about the premise.’ He continued, ‘There was one comment that really stuck out to us. It said: ‘Wait, this is a joke right?’ And, while there are jokes in the film which Mr. Rogen worked very hard on, this film is most certainly not a joke. We were devastated.’
It is uncertain if another company will step in to release the film.”
