I may not be the most qualified person to say this but I get a bit irritated when I see “motivational” posts saying “If you want to get better at drawing, just practice!”
Like…sure? But its more to it than just practicing. Evolving your skill as an artists is not the same as evolving your skill as a mathematician. You have to reach past yourself and experiment with various methods to develop your craft. You have to take risks and make choices all of the time in not just one picture but all across your creative lifetime. You ultimately have to be the one that decides if your decisions are the right ones are not.
It irritates me because all of that CAN be summarized with “just practice”. But I feel the two words don’t do it justice somehow. I don’t know. I can practice memorizing a music sheet but developing my own song feels like it takes a bit more out of yourself and rewards you a lot more also.
