You know what I hate about bully characters like Merula the most? It actually has NOTHING to do with Merula at all. It’s how everyone else treats her. She’s established to be this bitch character bully from the getgo but once you stand up to her, the characters go from being scared of her to just outright treating her the same way. They team up on her and parrot phrases she says. Things like “I hope you fall off your broom” and “Is there a spell to make you less annoying?” and I’m not going to pretend she doesn’t deserve it. She’s everything Draco Malfoy was. She’s stuck up, toxic and basically racist. But this idea of bullying her back is still a horrible thing to do to someone.
It becomes more apparent that she doesn’t have any friends if you join Slytherin. She’s always hanging around you in missions and sits or stands close to you in classes when she doesn’t need to. Why? Probably because messing with you and your friends is the only form of social interaction she has. That’s fucking horrible.
She’s not like Malfoy who’s behavior is propagated by his friends so she can be dealt with on a one on one basis. Ignore her insults and prejudices and you can see that she’s just another student trying to become the best witch and it’s annoying that people have to wait for an “Oh so that’s why she’s so mean” moment to see that.
“Oh she’s mean because she had a bad life.”
“Oh she’s mean because her father is mean.”
“Oh she’s mean because she was in love with your brother and he fucked off.”
I guarantee you that one of these speculations are true and it shouldn’t fucking matter.
As much as I hate Merula in game, I try to help her at any chance I get. Even if she flips you off for helping her you can see that she’s still scolded when she’s wrong and no matter how stubborn she is she’s eventually going to have to realize that she isn’t the hot shit she thinks she is. And if she never does then that’s just bad character writing. But she’s never going to get anywhere if people fight fire with fire.
I’m sorry I just hate when characters are treated this way. I hate it more when people only like these types of characters because “THEY’RE TSUNDERE” like fuck off no.They’re just troubled individuals who need to be shown that their way is going to lead them into disaster. It’s the same thing with characters like Garble. Characters in the show have guided WORSE characters into the light but for some reason they find it okay to battle his fire with more fire instead of being the better person. It pisses me off.
