The first Pirates of the Carribean movie is on netflix and oh my god. I never realized how much better this one is to the rest.
Take this scene for example. Johnny Depp says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in this and you already know everything you need to know about his character.
He’s determined with unorthodox ways of surviving shown while he is clearing his ship. He doesn’t fear death but he’s clearly still respectable of those that have met there end shown with the corpses. He disregards rules and warnings and heads forward and he uses any means to get to his destination while abandoning those that can’t help him survive. He doesn’t even bat an eye in the face of judgement. Just from seeing this scene you can tell he’s a brilliant yet potentially dangerous and even untrustworthy scallywag. And this unpredictability is what makes him such a good character.
And with Barbossa and his crew. The curse doesn’t make them badass pirates. They are ALREADY badass pirates before you even learn that they are immortal.
